The 2026 Black Diamond Rodeo Returns to the Arena June 5th & 6th!
The Black Diamond Rodeo is a cornerstone of Carbon County’s western heritage, with a legacy spanning nearly a century. While an “Eastern Utah Race, Rodeo Meet” was held in 1933, the rodeo’s story officially began in 1937 at the Price Rodeo Grounds, when the Price post of the American Legion sponsored the first annual Robber’s Roost Roundup. In 1951, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Posse assumed sponsorship, renaming it the Black Diamond Stampede, and quickly establishing the event as a major cultural and social highlight for the community. By 1958, the rodeo had become such a celebrated tradition that Price City Mayor Henry H. Mills issued a proclamation declaring the week of the rodeo “Western Week”, encouraging citizens to wear western attire and fully embrace the festivities that honored the county’s western heritage.
Over the decades, the rodeo evolved, becoming PRCA-sanctioned and later transitioning from the Black Diamond Stampede to Black Diamond Legends under the leadership of a private group, continuing to celebrate the skill, courage, and western heritage of the region. Following a decade-long absence, the rodeo was revitalized in 2025 as the Black Diamond Rodeo under the support of Carbon County local government, building on the success of the Carbon County Fair and ensuring this historic tradition continues for future generations.
A Tradition That Lives On
From bronc riding and barrel racing to bull riding and roping, the Black Diamond Rodeo delivers professional PRCA action while celebrating the western spirit that has defined this event for generations. Each year, fans of all ages come together to honor skill, courage, and community pride.
In 2026, the rodeo expands its reach, featuring events from both the Wilderness Circuit and the Mountain States Circuit, opening the door for even more top-tier competitors and creating a larger, more dynamic lineup of rodeo action than ever before.
Built by the Community
The Black Diamond Rodeo thrives through collaboration between Carbon County, dedicated volunteers, and the staff of the Carbon County Events & Recreation Complex. Their combined efforts ensure the rodeo is authentic, well-run, and reflective of the values and spirit of the community.
